Cooling product safety

Cooling products are designed to support your dog's comfort on warm-weather outings — they don't make dangerous heat safe. Always plan around timing, shade, drinking water and rest first.

Before use

Check the fit while the item is dry. Straps should sit close but never tight; you should be able to slide two fingers underneath comfortably. Introduce the product calmly indoors before wearing it on a walk.

During use

Re-wet evaporative vests when they start to feel dry, and remove them if they become warm, heavy or uncomfortable. Watch your dog for changes in breathing, pace or interest — those are always your best signals.

When to stop and cool

If you notice heavy panting, drooling, wobbliness, bright red or very pale gums, vomiting or collapse, stop the walk, move to shade, offer small amounts of water and begin cooling with cool (not iced) water. Contact a vet immediately — suspected heat-related illness is an emergency.

Not suitable when

During extreme heat, for dogs recovering from illness or surgery without vet approval, or as a substitute for shade, water and rest. If in doubt, choose an earlier or later walk instead.
